A memorial Mass for Evelyn Huschka will be celebrated at a later date this spring at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. Inurnment will be in the Corwith Cemetery.
Evelyn Marie Huschka was born March 3, 1921, in Corwith, the daughter of Daniel and Ethel (Green) Halligan. She grew up near Corwith.
On Nov. 18, 1941, Evelyn was united in marriage to August Huschka at the St. Benedict Catholic Church. After their marriage they farmed near Renwick and owned the filling station. They later moved to Duncombe and then back to Corwith. Evelyn worked for many years at Winnebago Industries. After August died in 1986, Evelyn remained in Corwith before later moving to Algona.
Evelyn was united in marriage to George Kunkel on June 20, 1997, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona.
She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, crocheting, doing puzzles and dancing. Evelyn also enjoyed music very much and taught herself to play the organ, guitar and harmonica. She was a member of St. Cecelia Parish.
Evelyn died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019, at her home in Algona. She was 97.
She is survived by her children, John (Vicki) Huschka of Cedar Rapids; Mary (Bob) Biede of Council Bluffs; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three step-children, David Kunkel, Barb and Jerry Knoll and Jolene Kunkel.
Her parents; both husbands; a daughter, Ann Marie Anderson; a grandson, David Anderson; and a brother, Alfred “Bud” Halligan, preceded her in death.
