BANCROFT — A funeral Mass for Ermina Vaske was held on Tuesday, May 16, at 10:30 a.m., at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bancroft. Burial was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Bancroft.
Ermina Rosalia Vaske was born on June 4, 1918, at St. Benedict, the daughter of Bernard and Mary (Seimer) Recker. She attended school at St. Benedict, graduating highest of her class. Ermina worked on the family farm and also helped neighbors and her brother, Lawrence in Alta Vista.
Ermina married Clarence Vaske on April 12, 1944, at St. Benedict Catholic Church. The couple made their home on their farm northwest of Bancroft, where they lived and raised eight children. Ermina was very loving, hard-working and cherished her family, all with a strong Catholic faith. She enjoyed gardening, her farm cats, crocheting, playing cards, music, and attending many activities or outings with her family. She had a “keep moving” philosophy. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Bancroft, the St. John’s Altar Society and CDA.
Her devotion to Mary and the Rosary was a big part in her life. She was a faithful sender of greeting cards to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends.
Ermina R. Vaske, age 98 of Bancroft, passed away May 9, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.
Ermina is survived by her eight children, Judy (Bill) O’Donnell of Lone Rock, Diane Bollinger of Carroll, Janice (Charles) Doyle of Swea City, Janet (John) Mescher of Fort Dodge, Tom (Lynette) Vaske of Webster City, Chuck (Marilyn) Vaske of Bancroft, Dave (Anne) Vaske of Urbandale, and Darlene (Frank) Kollasch of Bancroft. She also is survived by her 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Marie Recker of Algona, Lorraine Vaske of Lincoln, Neb. and Lois Vaske of Bancroft; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence on July 11, 1989; her parents; three brothers Lawrence, Clarence, and Alvin Recker; two sisters Marie Kisch and JoAnn Lickteig; and by her son-in-law, Willis “Bub” Bollinger.
