Eldon LeRoy Brown was born on the home farm near Fenton, on Sept. 2, 1927, to Fred H. and Ellen (Nelson) Brown. He passed away at Lakes Regional Health Care in Spirit Lake, on Jan. 24, 2020, at the age of 92 years.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel, Estherville, with the Rev. Vicki Fisher officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Armstrong. Visitation was Tuesday, Feb. 4, 9:30-10:30 a.m., at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel. Military rites were provided by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91, Estherville.
Eldon attended and graduated from Fenton High School. In 1946, he entered the United States Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1947. On Nov. 24, 1955, he was united in marriage to Marlene Niemann in Armstrong. Eldon farmed in the Fenton area. Marlene passed away Aug. 13, 1975. Eldon married Barbara Eggers March 26, 1977, in Ceylon, Minn. The couple made their home on the family farm. Upon retirement in 1989, they enjoyed winters in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and they moved to the Iowa Great Lakes area full time.
Eldon was a member of the Spirit Lake United Methodist Church and the Lake Havasu United Methodist Church. He was also an active Elks Club member. Eldon enjoyed picking up cans and working on golf carts.
Eldon is survived by his wife Barbara Brown of Okoboji; his children, Kathleen (Greg) Hepburn of Fort Dodge, Steve (Shelly) Brown of Algona, David (Becky) Eggers of Minneapolis, Minn., Mike Eggers and Kristi Riley of Estherville, Rick (Renee) Eggers of Dolliver, and Christopher (Crystal) Eggers of West Bend; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
