Denise Cook, age 82 of Algona, passed away on Aug. 17, 2019, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Mass of the Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, Aug. 21, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona, with Rev. Ed Girres celebrating. Burial took place in Calvary Cemetery in Algona.
Denise Naomi Marlow, the daughter of Jess and Ida (Kollasch) Marlow, was born Dec. 26, 1936, in Greenwood Township in Kossuth County. She graduated from St. Johnís High School in Bancroft. Denise received a bachelorís degree in teaching from Briar Cliff College in Sioux City. On Nov. 30, 1957, Denise was united in marriage with Dwight Cook at St. Johnís Catholic Church in Bancroft. Denise owned and operated B.C. Studio in Algona until 1995. She was also a substitute teacher at St. Cecelia, and she taught art classes in Algona and Okoboji. Denise had been a member of prayer groups, 500 card club and volunteered at the Adoration Chapel. She enjoyed playing cards, bird watching, gardening and providing day care for her grandchildren.
Left to cherish Deniseís memory are her husband of 61 years, Dwight; children, Jean (Rick) Weishaar of Algona, Donna Koch of North Sioux City, S.D., William ìBillî (Angie) Cook of Algona, Charles (Sara) Cook of Jordan, Minn., and Jeff (Sarah) Cook of Algona; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Leanne Costillo of Britt; and brothers, Mike (Mary) Marlow of Swea City and Ed (Joyce) Marlow of Emmetsburg. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Joan Donovan.
