David Michael Fandel passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn., on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019. Mass of Christian Burial is set for Friday, Feb. 1 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna, Minn. Friends may greet the family on Thursday, Jan. 31 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Brick - Meger Funeral Home and one hour before funeral liturgy on Friday at the church. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., at the funeral home on Thursday.
Dave was born on Nov. 15, 1949, in Sherburn Minn., the son of Francis and Phyliss (Crawford) Fandel. He attended high school at Bishop Garrigan in Algona and graduated in the class of 1967. Dave went on to college in Nebraska, where he graduated in 1969.
After graduating he moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where he met the love of his life, Jan Boese. They were united in marriage on Feb. 12, 1971. They moved to Owatonna, Minn., where Dave started selling cars for Leinenkugel’s; most recently he sold homes for Berkshire Hathaway.
Dave was very involved with the community. He gave much of his time to many different organizations throughout the community. He was an active a member of the Elks, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, a member of the Steele County Fair Board, and a former president of the Sertoma Club. Dave loved to shoot trap, hunt, bowl, BBQ and watch football. But his true passion was fishing with sons, grandson and friends.
Dave is survived by his loving wife Jan (Boese) Fandel; daughter Tracy (Lance) Granquist; son Brandon (Natalie); his mother Phyliss (Crawford) Fandel; siblings Linda (Curt) Vaudt of Whittemore, Dale (Sue) Fandel of Tega Cay, S.C., Rox Krieps of Sexton, Norm (Tammie) Fandel of Jefferson, Mark Fandel of Milan Mich., Jan (Mike) Capesius of Lu Verne, and Phillip (Wanda) Fandel of Bowie, Texas; his grandchildren that he treasured, Abbie Granquist, Logan Granquist, Claire Fandel, Kate Fandel and Harrison David Fandel; 20 nieces and nephews; and 36 great-nieces and nephews.
