Memorial services for Connie Johnson were held Monday, June 3, at 11 a.m. at Oakcrest Funeral Services with the Rev. Jim Dewar officiating. Inurnment was in East Lawn Cemetery.
Constance Joan Johnson was born Jan. 18, 1934, in Mason City, the daughter of Glen and Mildred (Sodawasser) Smith. She grew up in Mason City where she also attended school.
She has five children. Connie worked as a housekeeper in the Mason City area and later as a nurse’s aide at the hospital. She spent most of her life in the Mason City area before moving to Algona near her son, five years ago.
She enjoyed reading and rarely left the house without a book in her hand. She also enjoyed plants, collecting stuffed animals and going to garage sales.
Connie died Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at her home in Algona. She was 85.
Connie is survived by her children, Sharlene Steenblock of Storm Lake; Jo Duckert of Burlington, N.C.; Karen Kauffman of St. Ansgar; Ronnie Duckert and wife, Vicky of Algona; Vonda Blackford of New Providence; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Lucy Henning of Mason City, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Mildred; brother, Jerry; and sisters, Judy and Jane.
