Barbara Jean Fox

November 13, 1930 - September 5, 2020

We are here today to celebrate the life of Barbara Jean (Brewer, Dettman) Fox. Barbara was born on November 13, 1930, in Bakersfield, CA, daughter of George and Marguerite Brewer. Barbara was an only child.

Barbara married Milton Dettman on February 23, 1948 and moved to Algona. Together they raised seven children: Milt, Sandy, Marcia, David, Darrell, Joanne, and Lori. She and Milton were married for 28 years, until his death in 1976.

In March of 1986, she was married to Richard Fox. Richard brought with him a daughter, Cynthia. They were married for 25 years until Richard’s death in 2011.

Barbara after breaking her leg in late 2016, moved to Crossroads Assisted Living Facility in Bondurant in January, 2017. There she lived until her death on September 5, 2020.

When her two youngest were old enough, Barb went to work for Brougham Trailers. She would drive all over the United States delivering them to different locations. She was also a bookkeeper for her son’s company. She enjoyed watching rodeos, playing cards, playing scrabble and cribbage with her children and grandchildren. At Christmas time, she would help make Christmas goodies. She also enjoyed watching and answering questions from Jeopardy. But, most importantly, she loved time spent with her family.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husbands Milton and Richard; along with her sons, David and Milt; and a son-in-law, Darrell Parcel. The families she leaves behind are Sandy Parcel of Algona, Marcia and Dave Radig of Pocahontas, Darrell and Kris Dettman of Algona, Joann and Martin Nealon of West Des Moines, and Lori and Wayne Kautzky of Colfax. She also leaved behind 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Barbara will be missed by her family. However, comfort in knowing she is walking with her Lord and her family in Heaven makes this time easier.

We love you Momma…
