ALGONA — A funeral Mass for Ann Froehlich was held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at 2 p.m., at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Algona with the Rev. Edward Girres and the Rev. Mr. William Black officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Algona.
Ann Mary Froehlich was born on Sept. 4, 1943, in Shrubbery High Wycombe, England, daughter of Arthur and Phyllis (Lovegrove) Clement. At an early age, her parents and two siblings moved to Australia for 10 years then returning to England. She graduated from Lady Verny High School in High Wycombe, England. Ann then worked as an office assistant for the U.S. Air Base at High Wycombe where she met Don Froehlich, while he was stationed there in the Air Force. Don and Ann were married on Jan. 25, 1964, at High Wycombe Air Base.
While Don served his career in the Air Force they raised their family in England, California, New York, Sioux City, Michigan, Germany, Colorado and finally settling back in Algona in 1978. Ann then worked at Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company for 27 years, retiring in 2006.
Ann’s family was her top priority, she loved being surrounded by them especially her grandchildren. She was very active in St. Cecelia Parish spending many hours in the Adoration Chapel, planting flowers in the Church’s garden areas and she was an avid Bishop Garrigan School supporter. Ann took pride in her yard and also the Algona Country Club, planting all varieties of colorful flowers. She also enjoyed being with her friends and card groups.
Ann M. Froehlich passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, July 7, 2017, at the age of 73.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Don Froehlich of Algona; four children, Marie Froehlich Berke of Algona, Roger Froehlich and his wife, Wendy of Algona, Bob Froehlich and his wife, Hanna of Ankeny, and Stephen Froehlich of Logan; 10 grandchildren, Kelsie, Michael and Anna Berke, Justin and Ross Froehlich, Haley (Tyler) Tiffany, Cassandra and Olivia Froehlich, and Peyton and Kinnick Froehlich; and one brother, John Clement and his wife Suzanne of Sydney, Australia. She is also survived by eight sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Pauline Dean; her parents-in-law, Francis “Shrimp” Froehlich and Evelyn Froehlich Davidson; and a brother-in-law, Oscar Froehlich.
