Alice May, 92 of Algona, passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019. A mass of Christian burial was held Thursday, Jan. 10 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona with the Rev. Ed Girres celebrating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Algona.
Alice Mary May, the daughter of John and Helen (Freese) Youngwirth, was born April 18, 1926, in Wesley. She attended school in Wesley, graduating in 1944. On May 8, 1945, Alice was united in marriage to Richard (Dick) May at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. She enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her children. Alice was a member of numerous card clubs. She was also an avid reader and crossword puzzle and trivia fan. Alice was active in St. Cecilia's parish, where she worked with the Women’s Club and attended weekly Adoration for many years. She loved any social activities with her friends and family.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Maxine (Darrell) Rusher of Algona; Jean (Tom) Arnold of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Joni (Michael) Farris of Rosemount, Minn.; Lynne (Calvin) Eilers of Urbandale; and Julie (Larry) Hamling of Urbandale; 12 grandchildren: David, Dan, Alan, Angie, Mike, Tony, Melissa, Ryan, Ashley, Erica, Erin and Cory; and 12 great-grandchildren: Raidyn, Jazlyn, Ben, Gabe, Olivia, Jordan, Alyssa, Michael, Alexander, Sophia, Jonathan and Elliott. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Richard (Dick) May, parents and seven siblings.
