Women: Planting for the Future was the theme for the Algona Area Chamber of Commerce’s Women Networking event held on April 3 at the Columbia Events Center in Algona.

A catered dinner was served and four area panelists: Hilah Owen, JoAnn Harren, Mallory Sorenson and Joanne Roepke Bode, spoke about their roles in agriculture. Comedian Leighann Lord entertained the crowd followed by the announcement of door prizes.

Blaire Isabel Miller

David and Brooke (Benschoter) Miller of Algona announce the birth of their daughter, Blaire Isabel, on April 3, 2023, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center. She weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces and was 19 inches long.

Blaire is welcomed home by a sister, Brinley, and a brother, Bennett.

Maternal grandparents are Kevin and Karen Benschoter of Algona. Paternal grandparents are Gary and Sarah Miller of Algona.

Former Ledyard resident Leon McCoy will celebrate his 100th birthday and his great-granddaughter, Keira, will celebrate her 19th birthday on Saturday, April 22.

April euchre results in Algona

ALGONA—Euchre results for April 4 in Algona were Bimbo Bell and Chuck Kollasch, 72; Chuck Stetzel and Ed Rahe, 70; Nancy Lindell and Mark Wolf, 69; and Doreen Koepke with most loners - six. Door prize winners were Charlie Kollasch and Elaine Patterson.

Dennis (Joe) and Dorothy Bradley of Algona will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on April 20.

On Tuesday, March 28, Senior Exit Presentations took place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Seniors reflected  on their 13 years of schooling and plans for transitioning into the future after high school. This was presented in front of their advisors and two other teachers through oral presentations or a slide show lasting for 15 minutes.

State Tourney Victory Results in Donation to BGHS

With back-to-back state championship wins, the Bishop Garrigan Girls Basketball Team received a donation of $5,920 from Iowa State Bank based on the number of apparel items sold in preparation for the tournament.

Since 2018, the bank has donated more than $33,000 to BGHS Athletics through the sales of state tournament apparel that featured the bank’s logo.

Algona High School Boys Basketball team received a donation of $8,032 from Iowa State Bank based on the number of apparel items sold for their state boys basketball tournament appearance.

Since 2018, the bank has donated more than $27,000 to AHS Athletics through the sales of state tournament apparel that featured the bank’s logo.

Annual STEM event, sponsored by AAUW

 

The annual STEM event, sponsored by the Algona Branch of American Association of University Women (AAUW) took place Tuesday April 4. The event annually honors eighth grade girls from Algona and Bishop Garrigan Schools. These girls, recommended by their school’s math and science teachers, receive certificates for their outstanding work in: science, technology, engineering, and/or math (STEM).

Kossuth County Community Foundation distributes more than $174,000 to local non-profits

ALGONA—The Kossuth County Community Foundation (KCCF) held its 2023 grant awards celebration at the Summit Center in Bancroft on April 4, announcing the distribution of $174,868.16 to 19 projects of organizations serving Kossuth County through its 2023 grant cycle.
