Sign-up for summer reading program

WHITTEMORE—This year the Friends of the Library will be purchasing t-shirts for each child signed up for the summer reading program at the Whittemore Public Library.

A sign-up is being held through May 15 so that the right sizes and number of shirts for the children can be ordered. Please stop in or call the library at 515-884-2680 to sign-up.

Bring bars, recipe to library bar crawl

WHITTEMORE—The Whittemore Public Library staff members and volunteers are hosting a bar crawl on Tuesday, May 16 from 2 to 3 p.m. at the library in Whittemore.

Those planning to attend are asked to bring a pan of bars along with the recipe. Attendees will  sample a bite of each bar and have the opportunity to vote for their favorite bar.

Garden Club sale

 

The Kossuth Area Garden Club invites all gardeners to come to their club’s annual plant and garage sale which will be held on Saturday, May 13 at the floral hall at the Kossuth County Fairgrounds. Hours of the sale will be 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Garden club members will be offering plants from their gardens that can be easily transplanted at this time of the year.  All proceeds will be used to fund club projects throughout the year.

April euchre results in Algona

ALGONA—Euchre results for April 18 in Algona were first place - George Bierstedt and Gene Thompson - 79; second place - Zack Keith and Landon Ludwig - 77, third place tie - Dave McPeak and Kevin McPeak and Terry and Vicki Briggs - 67, most loners - Peter Jorgenson - 6.

Door prize winner was Joe Lickteig. Euchre games will resume on September 12.

BGHS prom grand march Saturday

ALGONA—The grand march for the Bishop Garrigan High School prom is set for 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 29 in the Friedmann Auditorium at the high school in Algona. Doors for the grand march will open at 7:30 p.m. The $1 admission fee per person will go toward next year’s prom expenses.

The 2023 prom theme is Welcome To the Jungle. Following the dance, the after prom event will be held at the school from midnight until 2:30 a.m.

Prairie quilters guild donates quilts

Year round members of the Prairie Quilters Guild donate quilts, baby sheets, wheelchair blankets, baby blankets and extra fabric to various organizations including but not limited to Little Al’s Foundation, Hospice of the Heartland and KRHC. The quilters also sew material borders around baby sheets for neonatal intensive care units and create quilts for patients in surgical and neurosciences intensive care units.

Gift bags presented to surgical patients

The team at Kossuth Regional Health Center takes pride in going above and beyond for surgical cancer patients. Gift bags are given to each patient receiving an oncology procedure with fellowship trained oncology physician Dr. Harry Condoleon. The gift bags include homemade seat belt cushions made by surgery nurse manager, Joan Wiemann.
