Library fun day

Kossuth County Library Association Fun Day will be held from 10:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. at Water’s Edge Nature Center on Friday, June 16, for students who have completed K-6 grades. Events will include arts and crafts, STEM activities and a special presentation by Toby Kid. Register by June 12 at any Kossuth County Library.

Missionary to speak in Swea City

Choir will perform Sunday in Algona

ALGONA—“Sharing Our Favorites” is the title of the choir program that will be presented by the Algona Presbyterian Church Senior Choir on Sunday June 11, at 3 p.m. The church is located at 101 North Main.

Included in the program are such favorites as “It Is Well with My Soul” “Great is Thy Faithfulness” and “Crown Him with Many Crowns.” Solos will be sung by Grace Freeburg, Norma Ruhnke and Jason Etherington.

Help shed some light on Project Hope

 

ALGONA – Students participating in the Kossuth/Palo Alto County Economic Development Corporation’s Intern Program are giving hope to local youth, teens, and adults by collecting personal care items for people in need.

The K/PACEDC Internship Advisory Committee is asking the public to help with Project Hope. Interns want to leave their mark after the summer by giving back to the community through this practical service project.

Naloxone training set for June 13 at ISU Extension office

ALGONA—Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Kossuth County and Prairie Ridge Integrated Behavioral Healthcare are partnering to offer a naloxone training. The training will be held on June 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the ISU Extension and Outreach Kossuth County office in Algona. There is no cost to attend.

Passport is back in 2023

and better than ever

 

From June 1 – Oct. 31, Iowa State Park Passport holders can earn points by checking into more than 60 state parks and forests using the online app. Each park has a different point value (either 100, 200 or 300 points), with “hidden gems” earning higher points. Redeem points for various prizes.

Iowa Swine Day set for June 29

AMES— The 2023 Iowa Swine Day program will provide widely regarded speakers who will share information on topics vital to today’s pork producer. From the morning plenary session to the four category-specific concurrent sessions in the afternoon, a wealth of knowledge and experience will be available.

Algona Hy-Vee employee Donna Tripp was very surprised and overwhelmed with emotion when her name was announced as the recipient of the Algona Area Chamber of Commerce Congeniality Award on Friday, May 26 during the Central Park ground breaking ceremony.

TRACTOR TRIP FOR PARKINSON’S

ALGONA—Mike Adkinson, a 77-year-old man from the state of Washington, has embarked on his third trip across the country on his John Deere tractor and his trailer in order to raise awareness for Parkinson’s disease. He made a stop in Algona on Friday, May 26, and shared his goals.

New library events

Staff and volunteers at the Whittemore Public Library have been hosting new events at the library.

Photo above: Fourteen  people participated in a bar crawl at the library. Participants brought a pan of bars for those attending to sample. Everyone then voted for their favorite bars.

There were a variety of activities for all ages during Red, White and Blue Whittemore Days held during the Memorial Day weekend.

Three AMS students recognized for outstanding character

ALGONA—Taylor VanOtterloo and Alex Brooks, students at Algona Middle School, were recognized for their citizenship qualities and awarded the Citizenship Award for the 2022-2023 school year. Taylor and Alex were chosen by their peers and school staff as two students who exemplify the qualities of citizenship. The Algona Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution sponsors the Citizenship Award each year. Taylor is the daughter of Todd and Alison VanOtterloo.
