Pharmacists Mutual selects Aaron Pearce as new president and CEO, Alison VanOtterloo as interim

ALGONA—Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company, the parent company of Chiron Insurance Company and PMC Advantage Insurance Services, Inc., announced July 21, that its board of directors has unanimously chosen Aaron Pearce as the organization's next president and chief executive officer. Pearce, who currently serves as vice president and general counsel for a number of Berkley Insurance Company operating units, will succeed Edward Yorty.

K/PAEDC countywide event features Christmas in July theme

WHITTEMORE—Approximately 125 people attended the Kossuth/Palo Alto County Economic Development Corporation Annual Countywide Breakfast on Wednesday, July 26 at St. Michael’s Parish Center in Whittemore. This year’s theme was Christmas in July.

Maureen Elbert, executive director of Kossuth/Palo Alto County Economic Development Corporation, told about the success and the history of the summer intern program which is now in its 24th year.

Anniversary

Person 60th

John and Sue Person will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on November 9. Sue celebrated her 80th birthday on June 17.

An open house celebration in their honor will be held on Saturday, August 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. at that Lone Rock Shelterhouse.

In case of inclement weather the open will be held at the Lone Rock American Legion.

Study shows KRHC created more than $1.1 million impact on local economy

ALGONA—A study by the Iowa Hospital Association found that in 2022, Kossuth Regional Health Center provided more than $1,148,075 in total community benefits and served more than 43,459 people through community service programs.

Last year, KRHC generated 476 jobs that added $30,367,648 in total wages. That is 9.71 percent of all wages in Kossuth County and 7.18 percent of all jobs in the county.

Last Party in the Park of the season will feature truck theme

 

ALGONA—Local band, Midland Vibe, will be rocking the Carnegie Library lawn in Algona during Party in the Park on Wednesday, August 9. The last Party in the Park event of the season will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and is sponsored by the Algona Area Chamber of Commerce.

Andy and Brittany (Cannon) Struecker announce the birth of their son, Levi Andrew, on July 26, 2023, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center.

Levi is welcomed home by siblings, Anna and Jackson.

Maternal grandparents are Kurt and Maria Olson of Humboldt. Paternal grandparents are Steve and Kathy Struecker of West Bend.

Several insurance carriers have stopped writing new homeowners policies in California due to man-made or natural disasters, also known as catastrophic events. In 2022, according to the Insurance Information Institute, insurance carriers estimated natural disaster property losses to be $99 billion. In Iowa, claims for the 2020 derecho topped over $1.6 billion.

ALGONA—Phil Eischen is being honored posthumously as the 2023 Kossuth County Fair Honoree. Each year a person(s) is chosen to receive the recognition by the Kossuth County Fair Board.

Union Slough auto tour route opens August 1

The auto tour route at Union Slough National Wildlife Refuge has received a fresh coat of gravel and will be open from Tuesday, August 1 through Wednesday, September 20. Visitors are welcome to drive the tour route from sunrise to sunset during those dates.

Anniversaries total 229 years

ALGONA—Glenda Garrels, Jane Dannewitz and Ervin Van Haaften arrived in Algona to teach in the Algona Community School District in 1964.

Don Nettleton came after the school year started in 1963 to take over the brightest sophomore class ever to graduate from Algona High School when they were too much for the previous biology teacher who gave up on them and left after a few weeks according to Nettleton.
