Congrats to the 2023 Fair Royalty

The 2023 Kossuth County Fair Royalty was crowned Tuesday evening during a ceremony in the grandstands at the fairgrounds.

The 2022 Kossuth County Fair Queen Molly Bormann served as mistress of ceremonies for the ceremony.  Bormann and last year’s royalty, Kenna Hatten, Peyton Paulsen and Caroline Patten, gave farewell speeches.

All the 2023 candidates introduced themselves and shared what their favorite part of the Kossuth County Fair is each year.

Another smashing success for “Salute to Veterans” Night

ALGONA—Just like the previous seven years, the Hunting With Heroes “Salute to Veterans Night at the Kossuth County Speedway in Algona on Thursday, July 27 was another smashing success.

The special night was filled with a lot gifts and free things for each of the veterans or widows of veterans along with an exciting night of dirt track racing and a new event record in Algona of 137 cars competing.

Jacobson‘s first show a success

Art lovers had the privilege of stepping into the imagination of Kim Jacobson (far right) at her first art exhibit last Saturday, July 29 at the Algona Publishing gallery. Jacobson has always been creative but never considered herself an artist until a friend called her one a couple of years ago. Creating art comes so naturally to her that she doesn’t realize her talent and thought everyone could do what she does.

Dr. Doolittle returns to KRHC

ALGONA—Jeff Doolittle, MD will be returning to Kossuth Regional Health Center in August.

Dr. Doolittle is a board-certified family medicine physician. Upon his return, he will care for patients in the clinic and also serve as chief medical officer.

Fenton’s fun run

Registration for Fenton’s Fun Run (side by sides, motorcycles, classic cars) will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at North Star Restaurant in Fenton on Saturday, August 12.

The run begins at 1 p.m. with the five stops in Lone Rock, Bancroft, Swea City, Ringsted and Fenton. The event is a fundraiser for Fenton’s Quasquicentennial. Please text Marcia Jacobsen, 515-320-2146 by August 5, to give the committee an estimate number of participants.

Algona Library fundraiser

ALGONA—The Friends of the Library are holding a silent auction of 20 wooden chairs that people have volunteered to paint for the auction. The auction began Aug. 1 and runs to the end of the annual book sale Aug. 17-19. The sale will follow regular library hours.

New commissioners for Kossuth County Veterans Affairs

The Kossuth County Veterans Affairs selected and swore in three new commissioners to serve Kossuth County Veterans on July 11.  Pictured from left to right is: Commissioner Gary Forsythe from West Bend, Supervisor Kyle Stecker, Commissioner Kevin Molsberry, Algona and Commissioner Troy Brandt. Commissioner Kim Groesbeck from Whittemore retired after 11 years of dedicated service.

Benefit brunch for Rox and Jerry Richardson planned

Plans to have a benefit brunch on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023 are underway for Rox and Jerry Richardson. The proceeds are to help defray expenses that the couple has incurred while dealing with medical concerns for several years. In conjunction with the brunch, there will be a bake sale, silent auction, and a 50/50 raffle. The Ledyard FBA group and Swea City Betterment Club will be selling raffle tickets for half-hogs.

Crowds flock to Fenton’s Sweet Corn Days
