City seeking proposals for Moore Street property

ALGONA—The City of Algona is seeking proposals from developers to purchase and rehabilitate a city-owned residential property located at 812 S. Moore Street.

Nomination papers available for five open city offices

ALGONA—For City of Algona residents planning to run for office in the November election, the necessary paperwork is currently available from the county auditor or the city clerk.

Open offices for this year’s city election includes the positions of:

Mayor (two-year term)

Ward 2 council member (four-year term)

Ward 3 council member (two-year term to fill vacancy)

Ward 4 council member (four-year term)

At-Large council member (four-year term)

Final week of the season for Algona Aquatic Center Season pass holders may swim at the YMCA

ALGONA—The final day of the season for the Algona Aquatic Center is set for Sunday, Aug. 13. Due to staff transitions at this time of year, open swimming hours may vary. Please call the Aquatics Center at 515-295-9103 before coming to confirm hours.

Wastewater treatment plant getting a complete overhaul

ALGONA—Algona’s wastewater treatment plant was constructed in 1955, and due to changes in regulations along with its age, the plant will undergo major reconstruction starting in spring 2024.

Iowa National Guard, Iowa State Patrol set to deploy in support of Operation Lone Star

The Endow Iowa 25 percent state tax credit program received an additional $7 million in funding for 2023 thanks to legislation passed and signed into law during the 2023 legislative session, creating a total of $13 million in credits available. Outdoor HeartSong Concert

A free outdoor HeartSong Concert will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 12 at The Eagle Center in Lakota, in celebration of Community Chapel Lakota’s 50th years of ministry. Bring a lawn chair and hot dogs, brats and beverages will be provided. Rain location is inside The Eagle Center.

Sunday’s schedule includes a morning worship, catered meal and commemorative service at 1:30 p.m.
