Master Gardeners take a tour

Kossuth County Master Gardeners and their guests went on a trip to northeast Iowa on Thursday, July 20.

Tour stops included Seed Savers Exchange near Decorah and Plantpeddler in Cresco.

Among the topics the attendees learned about during the day tour included the importance of heirloom seed saving, plant diversity, evaluation trials and commercial greenhouse technology,

Anniversary

Lind 50th

Phil and Linda (Elbert) Lind will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on August 25. Cards will reach them if sent to 908 North Wooster, Algona, IA 50511.

Phil grew up in Perry and Linda was raised in Whittemore. The couple met while they were attending Briar Cliff College in Sioux City. Phil and Linda were married August 25, 1973, and moved to Algona a couple of years later. They raised their four children in Algona.

Ribbon cutting welcomes InCourage Counseling

 

The Algona Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting and coffee at InCourage Counseling located at 1920 Highway 18 E. in the Eastland Plaza in Algona on Friday, August 11. Ashley Courtney, Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), owns the business which opened in March.

U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, today announced her Small Business of the Week: Bloom Floral of Kossuth County. Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

Debbie Berte earns honorable mention for photo

DES MOINES—Debbie Berte of Livermore received honorable mention for a photo she entered in the things and still life adult color photo division at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines.

Photographers from Maine to central Iowa submitted their best photographs to the 83rd Annual Photography Salon prior to the beginning of the 2023 Iowa State Fair.

Giving multiplied with school supplies for children overseas

ALGONA—As the school year approaches, shoebox packers are making use of back-to-school prices to purchase gifts and essential items for children in need around the world. Residents in Algona​​ are collecting school supplies, pencils, crayons and notebooks, alongside personal care items and fun toys, to pack in shoeboxes. Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, will deliver these gift-filled shoeboxes to children in more than 100 countries.

Support Veterans

The 2nd Annual Support Our Veterans Ride will be held on Saturday, August 19 from 9-10:30 a.m. with registration at Otto Field Post 415 in Livermore. Motors will rev and wheels will turn at 10:45 a.m. All types of vehicles are welcome. Stops for the ride will be in Humboldt, Fort Dodge, Manson, Rutland and Bode.
