Third cutting of alfalfa hay reached 82 percent complete

DES MOINES—Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig has commented on the Iowa Crop Progress and Condition Report released by the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service. The report is released weekly April through November. The weekly report is also available on the USDA’s website at nass.usda.gov.

New president will lead Bishop Garrigan

A new president of Bishop Garrigan Schools will be welcoming students back to school on the first day of classes on Wednesday, August 23. Christy Peterson of Algona was selected as the new president in November 2022 and officially started her duties as president of Bishop Garrigan Schools on July 1, 2023.

Peterson is taking over the role held by Lynn Miller, who retired as president on June 30.

Thank you from Haiti

Don and Kathy Pomeroy, missionaries with Educate Haiti, Inc., paid a visit to their friends in Algona last Friday, Aug. 11 to say thank you for the help given to improve the education and welfare of people in Haiti. Jean and Jane Shey hosted a meet and greet at their home in Algona giving everyone a chance to hear first hand stories of the work being done in Haiti as well as the different challenges the Haitians face.

I went to school to become a teacher because I knew that I always wanted to teach and coach. I attended Northwest Missouri State University and achieved my education degree. Along the way I have added endorsements and certifications to enhance my teaching and learning.

Make plans to attend the Wall of Fame ceremonies on Aug 25

ALGONA—The public is invited to attend the Wall of Fame ceremonies at Algona High School on Aug. 25 when the wrestling teams of 1969 and 1970, the 2008 boys cross country team and Bruce Hackbarth, track and field 1980, will be honored.

The festivities will begin with a meet and greet at:

4:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Wilcox Performing Arts Center. (There will be parking available across the street.)

Bilyeu honored for 50 years employment

ALGONA—Evolution Driveline honored Terry Bilyeu on Aug.11 at Veterans Park in Algona for his 50 years of dedicated employment and service. Bilyeu’s family and co-workers surprised him when he arrived at what he thought was to be a company picnic. The cake, balloons, slide show and plaque also gave the surprise away. Fun at Party in the Park

The last Party in the Park event of the 2023 summer season was held on Wednesday, August 9 on the Carnegie lawn in Algona.
