QPR training will be held on Nov. 1

ALGONA—Care Connections of Northern Iowa, the Eyerly Ball Mobile Crisis Response Team and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Kossuth County are teaming up to offer “Question. Persuade. Refer” (QPR) training to community members in Kossuth County and the surrounding area. QPR is a suicide prevention program that teaches participants three steps to help save a life from suicide.

Walk-in vaccine clinic open at KRHC

ALGONA—Kossuth Regional Health Center is currently offering a walk-in vaccine clinic for seasonal influenza Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the KRHC Algona Clinic. Individuals may come to the clinic, no appointment necessary, and check-in at the registration desk.

When getting your flu vaccine, please bring photo identification and up-to-date health insurance information.

Damp week limits field work

DES MOINES—Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig commented on the Iowa Crop Progress and Condition Report released by the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service.

“The widespread rain is definitely ill-timed yet still badly needed,” said Sec. Naig. “Though combines are sidelined, and harvest progress is slowed, the rain will have a positive impact on re-charging soil moisture, establishing cover crops and replenishing pastures.”

Farm estate, succession event planned

BRITT—Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Hancock and Kossuth Counties will host a farm estate planning and succession workshop on Wednesday, November 15 from 9 a.m. to noon  at the Britt Municipal Building. Registration deadline is Wednesday, November 8.

Candidate Forum in Fenton

 

On Sunday evening, October 22, at 7:00 p.m. the Club of the 70s of Fenton is hosting a political forum at the Fenton Legion Hall Community Center.

There are six people seeking the two open seats on the city council.  Incumbent Sandi Del Rosso is being joined on the ballot by Alex Sauve, Jeffrey Clabaugh, Tim Peterson, Rhonda Cash, and Ryan Harms.

Plan to attend benefit for O’Neall

ALGONA—A benefit will be held for Jamie O’Neall and her family at the VFW in Algona on Oct. 22 from 4 to 8 p.m.

The event will have a free will donation meal, live auction at 6 p.m., a bake sale, raffle prizes and DJ music by Big Mike Entertainment. If you would like to help but can’t make it to the benefit you are able to leave a donation at Iowa State Bank.

Walk and Pray

It was a picture perfect day for the Walk and Pray event at Bishop Garrigan Schools on Monday, October 9. The event raised $59,000 which will go toward transportation and classroom curriculum supplies.

Students were asked to acquire sponsorship for the walk-a-thon. Each student was asked to raise $150 or a family of 3 or more, $350.

Studer shares Wesley’s military history

On Wednesday, Sept. 13, The Kossuth County Historical Society held their annual cemetery walk. Each year a different cemetery in Kossuth County is showcased. It has proven to be a popular event for people to learn more about interesting characters and townships from the past.

Parade of classic cars bring joy to local residents

The Kossuth Shrine Club held the last car cruise for 2023 on Sept. 27. The parade of cars met in the Chrome parking lot before driving through the parking lots at Homestead, Algona Manor and the Good Samaritan Center. Driving through the nursing homes during one of the cruises has become a tradition for the club that meets once a month from May to September. The club drives to a restaurant somewhere in Kossuth County or surrounding areas to enjoy a meal. This night they ate at AK’s Chrome.

City purchases Main St. property

ALGONA—The Algona City Council voted in favor of a resolution on October 2 that approved a purchase agreement between the City of Algona and Kemna Properties LLC for the $300,000 purchase of the property located at 1107 N. Main Street. The property, which previously served as the site for Motor Inn, will become the new home for the city’s street department.
