5 fun facts about the month of November

Americans celebrate Thanksgiving each November, thus kicking off a holiday season that lasts until January 1. Though many see November as the start to a festive time of year, there’s even more interesting and fun facts about the eleventh month of the year.

Fun ways to enjoy the start of winter

Winter begins on December 21, 2023, and ends on March 19, 2024. Many people lament the arrival of winter, perhaps thinking the colder temperatures and shorter hours of sunlight will compromise their chances to have fun.

Even though particularly chilly thermostat readings or stormy conditions can hamper some plans, when people dig deeper they may find that even the coldest days present opportunities for enjoyment.

Are You Weather Ready?

The National Weather Service, Iowa Homeland Security, and emergency management agencies around lowa have designated November 9 as Winter Weather Awareness Day in Iowa. Andrew Ansorge, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Des Moines said, “As the length of daylight decreases and the days cool toward the winter months, it is time to ensure all lowans have made preparations for the winter season.
