BGHS cheer team brings home trophy

Little libraries installed at schools

The Algona Rotary teamed up with Chips off the Old Block woodworking club to place three little book lending libraries at each Algona Community elementary school. The Chips built the boxes that were installed by Jeff Gisch and the maintenance staff.

37th Annual Governor’s Invitational Pheasant Hunt

 

Hunters from across the state and around the Midwest were in Algona last weekend for the 37th Annual Governor's Invitational Pheasant Hunt. The hunt, hosted by the Kossuth County Pheasants Forever chapter, was held Nov. 3-4 in partnership with the lowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

ALGONA—Some people describe grief as something that their lives grow around. It is something they carry with them, and it changes over time, but it doesn’t go away. It becomes part of them. This rings true for moms and dads who have delivered a stillborn baby (about 1 in 175 families in the US).

Trunk or Treat Fun

Despite the cold temperatures on Halloween, lots of people participated in the trunk or treat event held near the Algona First United Methodist Church.

Skyler and Payge Purdy announce the birth of their son, Benjamyn Samuel, on October 31, 2023, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center.

He weighed 10 pounds and was 20.5 inches long.

Benjamyn is welcomed home by a sibling, Lakelynn.

AMU board sets date for public hearings

ALGONA—Algona Municipal Utilities Board of Trustees has set Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 11 a.m. as the date and time for three public hearings at the AMU office. The first public hearing will pertain to the 2023 budget.

Sentencing date set for supervisors chairman convicted of assault

ALGONA—Kossuth County Board of Supervisors Chairman Roger Tjarks, 76, of rural Titonka, will be sentenced next month after a six-person jury found him guilty of simple assault of Kyle Stecker, a fellow Kossuth County Supervisor.

The trial was held at the Kossuth County Courthouse Tuesday, Oct. 31. Jury selection began at 9:15 a.m. and the jury was seated at 10:30 a.m.

ALGONA—Bishop Garrigan High School has announced the students who qualified for the first quarter honor roll for the 2023-24 school year. Those with an asterisk (*) earned a 4.0 grade point average.
