Basketball plus Veteran's Day experiences at Twin Rivers Elementary

BODE—Twin Rivers Elementary School embarked on another whirlwind week packed with unforgettable experiences and a heartfelt tribute to our heroes for Veterans Day. The action kicked off on Nov. 6 as our kindergarten through 5th grade students traveled to Ames to watch the Iowa State Women's Basketball team take on the Butler Bulldogs. The Cyclones finished the game with a victory, defeating the Bulldogs 82-55. The students truly enjoyed the opportunity to attend a college basketball game.

Students volunteer to raise money for cancer patients

Holiday events set for Nov. 27

ALGONA—Mark your calendars for Monday, November 27 as downtown Algona will be the place to be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for the annual live greeting card windows evening. The historical society will have a Santa display and the Tacos for Tots meal will be held at the First United Methodist Church. Watch for more information on these events in the November 23 edition of the Kossuth County Advance.

Algona students compete in auto skills contest

 

Twenty-three Algona High School students competed in the 32nd annual DMACC/Iowa Automobile Dealers Association (IADA) Automotive Skills Contest recently at the DMACC Ankeny campus.

These students competed against more than 230 students representing 16 high schools from across Iowa in the written portion of the contest.

Remembering loved ones with Hospice Lights of Life

ALGONA—Hospice of the Heartland will host their annual Lights of Life memorial service and tree-lighting ceremony at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona on Sunday, December 3 at 2 p.m.

The annual Lights of Life event offers a time of reflection for those wanting to honor and remember a loved one.  In addition, Lights of Life helps to increase awareness of the work done by local hospice staff and volunteers and provides an opportunity to raise funds to support that work.

BGHS Dance shines

For the first time in its nearly 50-year history, the Iowa State Dance Team Association (ISDTA) held a qualifying round for the state solo dance championships.

More than 970 soloists from dance teams and color guards across the state were at Newton High School, Berg Middle School in Newton, Nevada High School and Middle School for the first-ever ISDTA State Solo Qualifier on Oct. 27-28.

4th Annual Bancroft Fall Bonanza

A whopping $10,000.00 was raised for the ambulance service during the Bancroft Fall Bonanza this past September.

People headed to Bob Boland Ford to purchase tickets for the Mazda 3 car raffle that was won by Tim Goche.

Toby the clown was downtown making balloon animals and bringing joy if you got caught without wearing a smile.

AMS students named to All District and All Iowa

 

Sixteen Algona Middle School (AMS) band members were named All District and two named All Iowa at the NCIBA Middle School Honor Band at Algona Middle School on Saturday, November 11 under the direction of Kurt Kissinger, middle school band director.

ALGONA—Angela Stalder has enjoyed her role as head baker at the Feed Mill in Algona immensely during the past year. She has always cooked and baked in bulk for her big family utilizing family favorite recipes. In addition to her culinary talents, she has extensive experience in the catering field working both on her own and for Kampen’s Catering in the past.

BGHS team qualifies for national event

Two teams from Bishop Garrigan ended up in 1st and 2nd places at the Top of Iowa Conference quiz bowl tournament held at Bishop Garrigan High School in Algona on Saturday, November 11. The event was co-hosted by Newman Catholic High School and Bishop Garrigan.
