Work done on Carnegie steps

The new limestone caps were installed last week to the Carnegie steps. Work is also being done on the inside. Once done the Carnegie Centre for the Arts will be sure to be a feather in Algona’s cap. Lone Rock Depot gets a face-lift

LONE ROCK—City leaders and Lone Rock Depot volunteers received a combined total of $10,250 from Lone Rock Cooperative Telephone and the cooperative’s technology partner, Aureon on Thurs., Nov. 9.

Holocaust program planned at West Bend Library, Dec. 1

WEST BEND—Ambassador Beverly Nagel Ellis of CultureALL will present a program on her family history during World War II on Friday, Dec. 1 at 1:30 p.m. at the West Bend Public Library.

Honor ornaments available at Fenton Library until Dec. 7

FENTON—The Fenton Public Library is having its annual honor ornament fundraiser until Dec. 7. For a $5 donation, persons can choose from a selection of 12 different ornaments in remembrance of a loved one.

Portion of community foundation grant provides blinds

Food drive a success

The Kossuth County community donated $40,333 and more than 7,800 lbs. of groceries for the Kossuth County Food Pantry on Friday, Nov. 17 during the 23rd Annual Stuff the Trailer Food Drive.

The event, hosted by AK’s Chrome Kitchen and Algona Radio KLGA & KLGZ, was held in the parking lot of AK’S Chrome Kitchen in Algona.

Several volunteers from Bishop Garrigan Schools’ helped pack and unload the trailer at the food pantry.

Selected for honor band

Six students from Bishop Garrigan Schools were selected for the Top of Iowa Conference Honor Band held at Osage High School on Monday, Nov. 13.

Opus choir honorees

Four students from Bishop Garrigan Schools were accepted into the state-wide music festival OPUS for 2023. From 5th grade Lucy Geving, 7th grade Anaya Thomas and Emma Kollasch, and from 8th grade Lillian Wickman were all selected for participation in the 37th annual Opus Honor Choir Festival.

Benjamin Trainer chosen third time for All-State

AMES—Benjamin Trainer from Bishop Garrigan Schools has achieved the milestone of earning a spot in the Iowa All-State choir for the third year. Only the top 2.4 percent of all musicians in the state receive this prestigious recognition.

Being selected as a member of the 2023 All-State is the highest individual honor available to Iowa high school musicians.

Koenck 95th

Peter Koenck of Fenton will celebrate his 95th birthday on December 7. His family is planning a card shower in his honor.

His family includes his son, Tim;  daughter Gina and her husband, Joe; grandson Jacob and his wife, Cassie; and granddaughter, Lindsay.

Faber 50th

Richard and Verlaine Faber will mark their 50th wedding anniversary on November 24. Cards will reach them if sent to 304 NW Beaverbrooke Blvd, Grimes, IA 50111.

Verlaine Boehm of Buffalo Center and Richard Faber of Algona were married on November 24, 1973 in Algona. They resided in Algona for several years before moving to Ogden where they raised their three kids.

Dittrich 40th

Connie and Dan Dittrich of Algona will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on December 3. The couple resides at 214 S. Ridgley Street, Algona, IA 50511. They request no gifts.

Santa Claus arrives Friday

ALGONA—Santa Claus has notified the Algona Area Chamber of Commerce he will be arriving by fire truck to Algona on Friday, Nov. 24. He will visit with children and families from 10:30 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the lobby of the State 5 Theatre. On Saturday, Nov. 25 he will be at the theatre again for visits from 1-2:30 p.m.

ALGONA—CliftonLarsonAllen LLP has released an audit report on Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona

The health center’s revenues totaled $46,888,698 for the year ended June 30, 2023, an 3.11 percent increase from the prior year. The revenues included $38,143,861 in net patient service revenue, $5,089,940 of other operating revenue, $976,718 of non-capital contributions and grants, and $2,678,179 in other nonoperating revenues.
