Sharing Christmas wishes

Children had the opportunity to visit Santa and Mrs. Claus on Friday, Nov. 24 and Saturday, Nov. 25 in the lobby of the State 5 Theatre in Algona.

Tour of homes in West Bend set for Dec. 10

WEST BEND—The 2023 Tour of Homes in West Bend featuring four homes will be held on Sunday, Dec. 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the West Bend Library with proceeds from the fundraiser to support library improvements. Ticket price is $10 and may be purchased the day of the event at the West Bend Library.

BGHS DECA members advance to state event

GILBERT—Members of the Bishop Garrigan DECA chapter traveled to Gilbert to compete in the District 2 DECA competition on Sunday November 12.

Seventeen members made the trip out of 23 registered DECA members. Of those 23 members, seven were first-year competitors.

The day consisted of team and individual events that were paired with a test score that they completed back at the start of the month.

Concert features Kossuth Co. residents

BRITT—“The Songs of Christmas” will be performed by The Hancock County Little Theater Choir on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church of Britt. The choir director is Diane Nall of Corwith. Myra Bowman of Britt serves as the choir accompanist. This event in the area has a long tradition of bringing singers from Hancock and Kossuth Counties together.

Cassidy Mae Dahl

Mitchell and LeeAnn (Lenninger) Dahl of Lakota announce the birth of their daughter, Cassidy Mae, on November 11, 2023, at Kossuth Regional Health Center. She weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long.

Welcoming Cassidy home was her brother, Jeremiah.

Maternal grandparents are Penny Wayland of Ida Grove and Danny Lenninger Sr. of Cherokee. Paternal grandparents are LuAnn Dahl of Swea City and Douglas Dahl of Swea City.

Dick Manske will celebrate his 70th birthday on December 4. A card shower is planned in his honor.

Head start on Christmas shopping in Wesley

Wesley held its annual Sip-n- Shop at the Wesley Community Center on November 9.

Redings celebrate 75 years

Reding’s Gravel & Excavating Company celebrated their 75th anniversary with a chamber coffee on Friday, Nov. 17. John, Katie and Chuck Reding amused the crowd as they talked about the business that was started by Chuck’s dad. The business has lasted through three generations. This is the second speech the Redings have had to give in the last month. The first one being at the Advance Awards ceremony when they received the Industrial Business of the Year award.

New Humboldt church inducts first members after departure from Faith United Methodist Church

DAKOTA CITY— After a difficult decision to leave Faith United Methodist Church, the Victory Church of Humboldt celebrated the first induction into its new congregation with 116 members in November.

The new church, which holds its Sunday worship services at The Hardy Church in the Humboldt County Historical Museum, has been meeting with about 140  attendees since services started in July.

Titonka-Burt Communications awards grant funding to support childcare

TITONKA—On Tuesday, November 14, Titonka-Burt Communications (TBC) awarded grant funding in support of the We Care Childcare Center. $1,500 dollars was donated from TBC, matched by an additional $1,500 from TBC’s technology partner Aureon through the Ripple Effect economic development match-funding program.

November 1440 Citizen of the Month  2023

The Kossuth County Sheriff’s is honored to recognize Marv Chickering of Algona as the November 1440 Citizen of the Month. Chickering was nominated for his dedicated service toward the Algona POW Nativity Scene located at the Kossuth County Fairgrounds. Donated to the City of Algona after WWII, the nativity scene is a historic attraction.

ALGONA—Several capital requests were approved this fall by the Kossuth Regional Heath Center Board of Trustees.

Tyler Shawn Schneider

Claire Sparks and Tyler Schneider of Algona announce the birth of their son, Tyler Shawn, on November 19, 2023, at Kossuth Regional Health Center. He weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces and was 20 inches long.  

Welcoming Tyler home was his sister, Lucy-Jane Bowman.

Maternal grandparent is Misty Schneider of Algona. Paternal grandparent is Gene Schneider of Lu Verne. 

November euchre results in Algona

ALGONA—Euchre results for Nov. 21 in Algona were first place - Joe and Jane Lickteig, 88; second place - Chuck Stetzel and Eddie Rahe, 75; third place (tie) - Doreen Koepke and Sandy Boekelman and Dean and Mary Berte, 70; and most loners - Jane Lickteig with six.

7th Annual Little Al Foundation Concert

LONE ROCK—The 7th Annual Little Al Foundation Concert will be held Sunday, Dec. 2, at 6 p.m. at the Lone Rock Presbyterian Church. Guest musicians this year will include Bill Hansen, Glen Henriksen, Kent Madison, Gene Miller, Paige Lang and Jessica Zotz.  

The Fenton Sweet Corn Community Choir will perform numerous songs and there will also be congregational carol singing. There will be guest appearances by Ole and Lena.
