Cure cabin fever with crafts

 

 

On Jan. 27 The Burt Public Library will have a Kids Craft morning from 10 to 11:30 a.m. If your kids need something to do on a blustery winter  Saturday morning, send them to the Burt Library for a morning of crafts and snacks. Saturday’s craft project will be diamond painting.

Harvest proclamation extended

AMES—Governor Kim Reynolds has signed an extension of the proclamation relating to the weight limits and transportation of grain, fertilizer and manure. The proclamation is effective immediately and continues through Feb. 12, 2024. 

Master Gardener training offered in Kossuth County

ALGONA—The application window is now open for this year’s spring Master Gardener training cohort in Kossuth County. 

Iowans wishing to complete Master Gardener training choose a county to complete training through, participate in online learning modules, and attend at least four in-person training sessions organized by the county office. After completing the 10-week training, trainees put their knowledge to work with a 40-hour internship in their training county. 

Farm financial planning program offers personalized insight

AMES—As farmers review their farm financial situation this winter, a handy resource is available from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

The Farm Financial Planning Program offers in-person experts who can offer one-on-one financial counseling, a computerized analysis of the farm business and referral to other extension programs or outside services.

USDA releases end of year reports on hogs, pig statistics

DES MOINES—There were 24.9 million hogs and pigs on Iowa farms on Dec. 1, 2023, according to a USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Hogs and Pigs report. Inventory was up 1 percent from the previous quarter and up 3 percent from the previous year.

Community Appreciation Celebration

A community appreciation celebration, hosted by Mayor Rick and Julie Murphy, will be held on Sunday, Jan. 21 from 3-7 p.m. at the new GrandStay Hotel. Everyone is welcome to attend the come and go event which is a thank you for the support for the past four years for all the projects and improvements made in Algona. Refreshments will be served.

A busy month in Lu Verne

December was a busy month at the Lu Verne Public Library. Several events were scheduled and were well attended.

Santa and Mrs. Claus were at the Lu Verne library to read to the kids and take pictures. The event included a kid’s program and each of them received a gift.

Community Bingo night was for all ages and included popcorn and prizes.

Themed art show Sunday

A Wetter Is Better Themed Art Show is set for Sunday, Jan. 14 from 4:30-6 p.m. at the Algona Publishing office gallery. The show is free to the public and will be hosted by the Stinson Prairie Arts Council. Meet and greet with Prince Eric and Ariel from All Call Theatre Company’s production of the Little Mermaid Junior.

KRHC welcomes first baby of 2024

ALGONA— Kossuth Regional Health Center welcomed its first baby of the New Year on Jan. 6, 2024. Zachary Israel Meza Jr. was born weighing 8 lbs., 2 oz. and measured 22 inches long.

Proud parents are Zach Meza and Yecenia Campuzano of Algona. The new baby boy is welcomed by his sister, Zoey. Maternal grandparents are Maria and Antonia Campuzano of Algona. Paternal grandmother is Maria O Lainez of Bakersfield, Calif.
