Arthur enjoys being new business owner in Algona

ALGONA—When selecting new inventory to fill her store, Cultivate Family Shop, Mandy Arthur searches for good quality and comfortable clothing for children and women.

Mandy and her husband, Darren, became store owners on January 1 of this year when they purchased the former Cultivate Boutique in downtown Algona from Abby Bollig.

Doyle and Shirley Trenary will celebrate their 50th anniversary on March 31. Their children Becky and Mark Baas, Molly and Todd Hefflefinger, and grandson Levi Hefflefinger are planning to  honor them with a card shower.

Stan and Marlys Simonson will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on April 14.

Treading is trending

This group of women (and sometimes men) have been meeting three times a week at the Algona YMCA for more years than they can remember. During the summer they meet outside at the Algona Aquatic Center. There are other groups like theirs that meet at different times but all of them seem to have the same goals in mind. Some are treaders and some do aerobics.

ALGONA—The City of Algona Parks and Recreation Department hosted an open house at the Tietz Park Shelter on Friday, March 24 from 9:30 a.m. until noon. The public was invited to stop by for a walk-through of the new shelter house. Coffee and light refreshments were available.

Blocker named 1440 Citizen of the Month

 

BANCROFT—The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office is honored to recognize Bobie Blocker of Bancroft as the March 1440 Citizen of the Month. Blocker operates the KidStop Daycare in Bancroft and was nominated for her countless hours she dedicates toward the care and safety of all the children that attend the daycare.

Annual banquet honors Algona FFA members

ALGONA—The annual Algona FFA Banquet was held on Tuesday, March 21. The awards were presented in the Wilcox Performing Art Center. The ceremony included recognition of several degrees, events throughout the year, scholarship awards, FFA officers, and more.

City Revolving Loan program rebrands

ALGONA—The Algona City Council approved an update to the administrative guidelines and a new name for the City of Algona’s Retail Revolving Loan Fund. The program, now named the Small Business Revolving Loan Fund, provides low-interest loans to new and expanding businesses located in Algona.

Derrek and Cori (Wakefield) Olson announce the birth of their daughter, Maisie, on March 24, 2023, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center.

Maisie weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces and was 20 inches long.

Maternal grandparents are Debbie Menke and Andrew Wakefield.

Paternal grandparents are Todd and Lisa Olson.

Derrek and Cori are employed at Snap-on.

BGHS honor roll students recognized

ALGONA—Bishop Garrigan High School has announced the students who qualified for the third quarter honor roll for the 2022-23 school year. Those with an asterisk (*) earned a 4.0 grade point average.

ALGONA— Algona Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution officers conducted chapter business including reports when Vice Regent Teri Miller presided at the March 14 meeting at the First United Methodist Church in Algona.
