Heroes continue to grow family

LAKOTA — Now in its fifth year, the success of Lakota’s Hunting with Heroes can be seen in its alumni — Marines from the Wounded Warrior Battalion in Camp LeJeune, N.C., who have spent a weekend in north central Iowa hunting pheasant — and then return to help the next group of Marines.

“Hunting with Heroes has become an important part of the healing process for the Marines who get to come to Lakota,” said Chief Warrant Officer III Owen ‘Brad’ Pottorff at the banquet on Sunday that highlights the event. “Sometimes actions by an individual go unseen, but the actions of this community can be seen by all.”

Pottorff was one of the wounded Marines in 2014, and this year marked his third trip to Lakota. He put off a third back surgery in order to attend this year.
