Veterans mental health needs increase here

In the past two years, Dan Green, Kossuth County’s veterans affairs director, has seen the numbers of veterans needing mental health services increase in Kossuth County.

“Oddly enough, it’s coming more from the Vietnam era generation,” he said. “I would assume maybe part of that is the renewed focus that society has on the Vietnam generation in general, honoring them and putting them to the forefront. That’s not say the other veterans of other eras are being slighted.”

Green said many are still serving in the military and may not be even aware that they are suffering from mental health issues.
