Teachers work to overcome barriers to reaching students
As a seventh-grade reading and language arts teacher in the North Kossuth School District, Joe Johnson had to devise a different teaching plan after the school closed because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Johnson knows that what he is teaching now doesn’t make up for the classroom atmosphere.
“It is good, but we miss the face-to-face interaction and discussions with students,” he said. “I wish more kids were participating. Students who are participating are doing a phenomenal job. I’m seeing some of the best writing and journaling that I’ve seen all year.”
