Hope for the best, plan for the worst

It has been a heck of a few weeks hasn’t it? All at once, the world changed. Some things that were just unimaginable 14 days ago are now standard operating procedure (SOP). I could never imagine a scenario where in-person worship would be suspended for the foreseeable future.

Speaking of SOP, in Jesus’ parable of the 10 bridesmaids in Matthew 25:1-13, the bridesmaids take their lamps and go outside the gate and wait for the bridegroom. However, he doesn’t come, and doesn’t come. Suddenly, just when they had given up hope, “Here he is!”

Some are ready, and some aren’t. Some take his late coming in stride, others panic. Some are coolly waiting and prepping, others are running all over town trying to find lamp oil.

Hope for the best. Plan for the worst.
