Ag educators name Becker outstanding teacher mentor for 2020
As a high school agriculture educator, Betsy Becker knows how difficult it can be to continue the hectic pace of teaching students about agriculture. So, she decided to be a mentor for other ag educators.
Because of her work with other ag teachers across Iowa, the Iowa Association of Agricultural Educators (IAAE) has named Becker, who teaches ag education at the Algona Community School District, the outstanding teacher mentor for 2020. “It is a nice award. The category was established because there is such a high demand for ag teachers,” she said, adding that five years ago, the award was created to work with new teachers to help provide them a support system. “It is a way to keep them involved in teaching without burning out.
